Bolinas to Shoreline Highway Tomales Bay (38.09258, -122.82732)
From my notes:
"In the morning I meet the owners who say it's no problem I stayed there. I buy some self serve produce and move on.
The town of Bolinas has hand painted road signs, grateful dead night posters, natural food store, free items bin, large peace signs, murals...
Trail section (glad I did not attempt at night!), then road, then Point Reyes National Seashore rugged trail. Hike to wildcat camp, get water, have a snack, see baby coyote. See whales feeding, they are surprisingly loud coming up for air. Run to beautiful hostel in the mountains, at 25 mostly mountain miles for the day. No vacancy. Give me food and directions, no cell connection for map. I hike on in the dark. Must use alternate route because cannot hire a boat. Get to next town, man on his phone says hi asks if I need a place to stay. I say no. A mile later he pulls up in his car to ask if I'm really sure.... I tell him I need to get in more miles. He yells "you're awesome," as he drives away.
I get to hotel on map, turns out to be a bar. Used to be a hotel. A live band is playing Grateful Dead "Truckin'."
I hike five more miles, then crash in a clearing in some roadside weeds, in a pocket of warmer air near a camper."
Trail Notes:
Had to take alternate route to avoid hiring a boat to get across end of Point Reyes National Seashore to Dillon Beach. Woman at the hostel said there is no boat service available. I called Lawson's Landing, mentioned in the guidebook but they also said no shuttles for hire.
